The most valuable source for late nineteenth and early to mid-twentieth century Irish Methodism – from records of local church events to attitudes and correspondence in its columns to national and international affairs is to be found in the pages of the weekly Irish Christian Advocate.
It ran from 1883 until its publishing base at Wellington Place, Belfast was destroyed in 1971. Items of important local history which received more than half a column print space have been listed in the several volumes of alphabetically indexed finding aids to local churches and circuits. These finding aids are available at the Society’s reading room and library at Edgehill College, Belfast.
