SUMMARY:MHSI Pilgrimage 2024 - Visit to Larne Circuit
DESCRIPTION:Larne is among the most historic centres in Irish Methodism—t
 he first society was formed in the town about 1756 and Wesley visited in 1
 758\, 1760 and finally in 1771. The pilgrimage will visit four locations o
 n the circuit where Methodism took root in the years since. In 1799\, one
 of the earliest Methodist visitors to the town and area was Lorenzo Dow\,
 the crazy\, unwashed\, beloved American preacher\, whose missionary activi
 ty added many members. The first chapel built in Larne was in Mission Lane
  in 1804\, to be replaced by one in Pound Street in 1827 and then in 1885
 by the present church\, ‘the second most beautiful church in Methodism
 ’ it was said at the time.\n\nAt Carnlough there was a Methodist mission
  school in the early 1830s and later the present chapel which was dedicate
 d on 12 September 1858.\n\nAt Glenarm a chapel was erected in 1840 and in
 1882 was transferred to the Church of Ireland to become St Patrick’s Par
 ochial Hall.\n\nCraigyhill Methodist Church is the youngest society having
  been formed in 1957 and the present church was opened in 1969.\n\n&nbsp\;
